Wrinkles Q & A

What causes wrinkles?

Wrinkles happen naturally with age. Skin loses its elasticity and becomes fragile as a person ages. It also produces less oil, leading to dryness that emphasizes wrinkling. Less collagen also contributes by reducing skin’s plumpness. Meanwhile, fat in layers of your skin diminishes, leading to more pronounced lines, as well as sagging. Spending time in the sun without protection, tanning, and smoking accelerate these effects.

How can I prevent wrinkles?

To prevent new wrinkles or current wrinkles from worsening, protect your skin from UV rays. Wear sunscreen or protective clothing when you’re outdoors, including during winter months. Keep your skin well-moisturized and avoid smoking. Even quitting smoking after years can improve your skin’s condition. Eating a healthy diet, rich in fruits and vegetables, may also help.

How can I reduce wrinkles?

Once you have wrinkles, you can take steps to minimize their appearance. Applying prescription or over-the-counter topical creams containing retinoids, often called “anti-aging” creams, regularly can help smoothen your skin and minimize roughness. Procedures such as facelifts, fillers, botulinum toxin type A injections such as Botox®, and laser therapy can provide more intense results.

What is Pellevé®?

Pellevé uses radiofrequency to warm deep layers of your skin gently. Over time, this stimulates the body to produce new collagen. The safe and effective treatment helps reduce lines and wrinkles without the risks or downtime of surgery.

What does the procedure feel like?

Pellevé is a gentle, comfortable procedure. As the practitioner moves the device over your skin, you may experience warmth others have compared to a soothing hot stone massage.

Are there any side effects?

Unlike surgery or harsh scrubs, Pellevé is unlikely to cause any significant pain or side effects. You might notice redness and swelling in the area treated following your session, which subsides quickly on its own. Any mild discomfort is also temporary.

How many treatments do I need?

The number of Pellevé sessions you’ll need depends on your symptoms and goals, as well as how your skin responds to the treatment. In general, 3-5 treatments about 4 weeks apart is recommended for boosted collagen rebuilding.
